Timeline of World Events
| 2022-2025 – Unrest within the United Nations and its antagonism with the freshly formed United Arab Protectorate led most of the world to unwillfully ignore the economic monopolization in Asia by China. Unable to stop Chinese reintegration of Taiwan and the occupation of North Korea in “self-defense,” the Western nations, stressed from middle-eastern conflicts, could only watch as frightened or opportunistic nations joined the People’s Union of Asia. |
2025-2033 – United Nation’s Peacekeepers are led into extended conflict with Arab Reclamationists. The PUA sees this as chance to assimilate the rest of Asia not already in its control. A forceful movement begins, and the two fronts of world war confuse the world’s most powerful country, the United States.
Grand promises of restoring global peace by its leaders and nationwide infatuation with the polemic of international policy causes domestic technology policies to be ignored. Interweb services and technology quickly becomes a free-for-all as communications inventors and information providers gradually become pioneered by small businesses at a speed to high for corporations to keep up with.
|
2034-2043 – The global war is at a peak. Although called World War III by the media, the conflict is wholly unique. Many copycat United Nations form around cultural and continental identities, and the fear that other unions will become greater assimilations leads to additional sub-wars in North America, South America, Central America, Africa, and Europe as well.
Weapons technology evolves warfare into a resource-based conflict, with over 80% of casualties being networks, digital infrastructure, and supplies. Human loss of life from direct conflict is minimized, but the aftermath of famine and sanitation deprivation from this type of warfare leads a shameful era downplayed by politicians from all sides. Virtual battles conducted by hackers or soldiers controlling war machines remotely are widely touted as an advancement in the civilized battleground. |
2043-2045 – World War III is renamed the Reversal Wars, because of the years it began and ended are 34 to 43, and because of the huge shifts in world power that became evident at its end. Most nations somberly declare themselves the victor, and as they turned to face domestic issues, find that a rising caste of young, entrepreneurs emboldened by rapid technological development were ready to supplant them. Amongst themselves, even internationally, these upstarts network ed their power, jokingly referring to themselves as an “open-sourced” revolution.
By the end of 2045, they’ve established the groundwork for an open-source government they optimistically dub the New Earth Council, an innocuous name that belies the intricacy and effort they put in compartmentalizing the world by services to the Metaweb. |
| 2046-2079 – A dynamic stability powered by meritocracy prospers, although to the chagrin of many who lament the loss of cultural identities to the progress. Maintaining peace becomes a public affair. Wars are fought in sanctioned events, and mercenaries become government sponsored professionals. The NEC’s peacekeeping forces, known as the Aegis, keep relative peace throughout the republic. |
